On January 4, 1940 the Perdido Soil and Water Conservation District was established. The name formally was changed to the Escambia Soil and Water Conservation District on May 16, 1995.
The District was formed by residents for the purpose of promoting and encouraging best management practices for natural resources throughout the county.
The Escambia Soil & Water Conservation District works closely with Escambia County Natural Resources Managment Department.
In addition, the District has a working partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)
The Escambia SWCD operates under Florida Statutes 582 under the Florida Legislature.
